Catherine van Kampen Serves as Key Organizer for the Second Annual International Law Conference on the Status of Women

In conjunction with International Women’s Day, BLB&G associate and member of the New York City Bar Association’s United Nations Committee and African Affairs Committee, Catherine van Kampen will serve as a key organizer and speaker at the Second Annual International Law Conference on the Status of Women held on Monday, March 8, 2021.

The objective of the Conference is to have a candid conversation about the current situation of women and girls around the world, with a focus on how laws and policies have contributed to the situation. The panelists will provide their insights and expertise as to how the legal profession can address the situation to promote a more equitable and less discriminatory environment for women and girls and will highlight their efforts, and the efforts of their respective organizations, to promote gender equality and empower women and girls.

The afternoon will feature an introductory note by Sheila Boston, New York City Bar Association President, two-panel discussions that will focus on "Understanding and Mitigating the Disproportionate Impact the COVID-19 Pandemic Has Had on Women" and "Eliminating Violence Against Women in Order to Allow Women’s Full and Effective Participation and Decision-Making in Public Life," and a fireside chat with Catherine van Kampen and Reshma Saujani, Attorney, Activist, Author of Brave, Not Perfect, Founder of Girls Who Code and Advocate for the Marshall Plan for Moms.

  • Beate Andrees, ILO Special Representative to the UN and Director
  • Valentine Rugwabiza, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the UN
  • Pramila Patten, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict
  • Akila Radhakrishnan, President of the Global Justice Center
  • Dubravka Šimonović, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women
