Lawdragon Profiles BLB&G Partner John Rizio-Hamilton in “Lawyer Limelight” Feature

May 4, 2021

BLB&G partner John Rizio-Hamilton is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading shareholder litigators, having recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for investors, while improving corporate governance practices at numerous companies and advancing social justice causes in the process.

John was the subject of a “Lawyer Limelight” profile documenting his interesting career path and some of his recent achievements, including leading the $240M recovery for investors of Signet Jewelers. This precedent-setting case marked the first successful resolution of a securities fraud class action based on allegations of sexual harassment and gender discrimination claims. The profile also reviews John's perspective on identifying Covid-19 related fraud and what may be revealed as a result, to which he commented, "we’ll be ready...no matter what comes out, I guarantee you we’ll be ready.”

While both of John's parents were plaintiffs’ lawyers, his original dream was to become a writer. After graduation, he spent a couple years as a beat reporter in Brooklyn, investigating local government corruption. With this experience and the legal profession running in his family, he was inspired to pursue a law degree and have a positive impact on society. After his clerkships, he joined the firm and climbed the ranks to partner within five years.

John is currently litigating a matter against Mattel surrounding the accounting for a deferred tax asset and a securities class action case in the District of New Jersey involving misstatements and omissions concerning an international bribery scheme. He has also contributed to the firm's expansion into Canada, working to protect more Canadian investors against securities-related fraud.
