Forbes has named BLB&G Partners Max Berger, Jeroen van Kwawegen, and Greg Varallo to its inaugural “Best-In-State Lawyers” list, which recognizes leading legal professionals nationwide for their integrity and exceptional records of achievement.
Max is BLB&G’s founding partner and one of the most accomplished and respected plaintiffs’ lawyers worldwide. Recognized as the “dean” of the U.S. plaintiff securities bar, he has litigated many of the most significant shareholder cases in history, reaching billions of dollars in settlements in landmark cases including Cendant ($3.3 billion), Citigroup-WorldCom ($2.575 billion), and Bank of America/Merrill Lynch ($2.4 billion). His crowning achievement is growing BLB&G from a partnership of four lawyers in 1983 into what the Financial Times described as “one of the most powerful securities class action law firms in the United States.”
Jeroen has recovered over $4 billion for investors and advanced significant governance reforms on behalf of the firm. His notable achievements include co-leading the groundbreaking case against Tesla, resulting in the rescission of Elon Musk’s $56 billion pay package, and securing a $1 billion settlement for Wells Fargo investors. Jeroen is currently prosecuting several high-profile securities and breach of fiduciary duty cases, including those involving Meta Platforms and Credit Suisse.
Greg is the head of BLB&G’s Delaware office, prosecuting cases throughout the country and helping the firm’s clients navigate complex derivative and class actions, business-to-business disputes, fiduciary litigation in bankruptcy court, and alternative dispute resolution. He has litigated hundreds of complex business disputes and has earned a reputation as one of the country’s leading corporate governance experts and trial lawyers. He is a prominent thought leader and co-author of several publications, including The Practitioner's Guide to the Delaware Rapid Arbitration Act, Special Committees: Law and Practice, and Fundamentals of Corporate Governance.
