In recognition of his long and successful career as a securities litigator, senior partner Max Berger was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession Award at Chambers and Partners’ ninth annual Chambers USA Awards for Excellence.
According to Chambers, Mr. Berger is a “standard-bearer” for the profession, with “numerous headline-grabbing successes” that include billions of dollars in securities fraud settlements. With a career spanning over 40 years, Mr. Berger and BLB&G have obtained over $25 billion in recoveries on behalf of defrauded investors, and have prosecuted seminal cases establishing precedents which have increased market transparency, held wrongdoers accountable, and improved corporate business practices in groundbreaking ways. Particularly noteworthy, the firm has recovered nearly $6 billion for investors in cases arising from the subprime meltdown – including settlements from Bank of America, Citigroup, Wachovia, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Wells Fargo, among many others.
Chambers notes that Mr. Berger is “warmly lauded by his peers, who are nevertheless loath to find him on the other side of the table,” characterizing Mr. Berger as “a very tough opponent and very principled. He prides himself on representing the shareholder classes. He takes his responsibility to his plaintiff class very seriously.”
