Mathews de Carvalho is a BLB&G associate prosecuting securities fraud, corporate governance, and shareholder rights litigation on behalf of the firm’s institutional investor clients. He is based in the firm’s New York office.
Mat has played a key role in achieving significant recoveries for the firm’s clients, including in securities class actions against Ryder System ($45 million recovery) and Cerence ($30 million recovery). Currently, he is serving as a key member of BLB&G litigation teams prosecuting several high-impact cases, including securities class actions involving The Boeing Company, Silicon Valley Bank, Meta Platforms, and Lamb Weston Holdings.
A thought leader in the field, Mat regularly contributes to legal discourse. Most recently, he co-authored an article titled “Save Your Messages: SEC’s Focus on Document Retention Continues into 2024,” published by Reuters. Mat is also an active member of the Federal Bar Council’s First Decade Committee and has helped coordinate or moderated several panels in connection with the Federal Bar Council.
Prior to joining the firm, Mat was a member of the securities litigation group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where he focused on securities class actions and corporate governance matters. He was also involved in several pro bono projects, including a criminal defense appeal and work with the Innocence Project. Mat previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Matthew W. Brann of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Mat earned his J.D. from the New York University School of Law, where he served as Competitions Executive Editor of the Moot Court Board and was a member of the Order of Barristers. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from Fordham University.
