BLB&G Once Again Given Benchmark's Highest Ranking as a “Highly Recommended” Firm

November 2013

For the seventh year in a row, BLB&G has again been named one of the leading litigation firms in the nation by the 2014 Benchmark Litigation Guide to America's Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys, compiled by the publishers of leading financial news magazines Institutional Investor and Euromoney. BLB&G is the only plaintiff litigation firm based in the State of New York and one of the only plaintiff firms in the country to be given Benchmark’s highest ranking of “highly recommended.”

Benchmark identifies the leading U.S. trial attorneys and firms at the local and national levels. Focused exclusively on the U.S. litigation market, the publication's rankings and editorials are the result of extensive interviews with private practice lawyers and in-house counsel.

The publication describes BLB&G as one of the few plaintiff firms that “command the level of recognition and respect from lawyers on both sides of the “V” and recognizes its “continuum of record-setting verdicts and settlements,” including its recent mega settlement of $2.425 billion with Bank of America in connection with the bank’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch. According to the publication,‘’This was another landmark win for the Bernstein Litowitz team. They seem to have at least one a year,’ surmises a peer.”  Also noted was BLB&G’s $730 million settlement in Citigroup, “the second-largest recovery in a securities class action brought on behalf of purchasers of debt securities, as well as the second-largest settlement arising out of the subprime meltdown and financial crisis”; and its massive $688 million combined settlements in the coordinated cases against Merck and Schering-Plough, stemming from allegations that the companies inflated their earnings by making false statements about the efficacy of the blockbuster anti-cholesterol drugs Zetia and Vytorin.

According to defense counsel, BLB&G brings “serious cases that are pursued with conviction by people who know what they’re talking about. They don’t bring the weak ‘junk’ that other plaintiffs try to sleepwalk their way through just to shake down deep-pocketed corporations. This is what earns them the respect from us [defense lawyers] and judges. Even when they lose, their arguments have merit.”

Individually, firm partners Max Berger, Sal Graziano, Mark Lebovitch, Gerald Silk, David Stickney, and former partner Steven Singer were recognized as "Litigation Stars" in New York and California.
