BLB&G Partner Sean Coffey participated as a featured panelist at the 35th Annual Securities
Regulation Institute, which was held January 23-25, 2008, at the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, CA.
Joining Mr. Coffey on the panel entitled, “Judicial Developments and Private Litigation,”
were the SEC’s general counsel Brian Cartwright, the SEC’s former General Counsel Giovanni
Prezioso, securities professors James Cox and Donald Langevoort, and defense attorney Michael Young.
The panel discussed scheme liability, pleading issues after Tellabs and Dura, and transnational securities class actions.
Mr. Coffey has litigated many high-profile actions, including
In re WorldCom, Inc. Securities Litigation, in which he served as lead trial
counsel for the investor Class. The WorldCom settlement of nearly $6.15 billion
included an unprecedented $24.75 million personal payment by the company's former
outside directors -- nearly 20% of the collective net worth of these individuals.
Mr. Coffey currently serves as court-appointed Lead Counsel representing investors
in the Omnicom,
HealthSouth,
Merck,
Refco,
Delphi, and
Converium litigations, and
copyright holders in the Premier League v. YouTube class action.
