William Fredericks discussed
the securities litigation landscape at
the Practising Law Institute
(“PLI”) program, entitled "Securities Offerings 2007,"
which took place in New
York City from April 26-27, 2007. The program featured a distinguished
faculty of securities litigation industry experts discussing the latest
developments in securities offerings, recent SEC reforms, new executive
compensation disclosure requirements, among many other highly informative
and interesting topics. In a panel entitled “Liability Provisions and Due
Diligence,” Mr. Fredericks touched upon key issues relating to Plaintiffs’
perspectives on class actions arising out of public securities offerings and
discussed recent decisions and settlements impacting the liability of officers, directors, underwriters and auditors in
Section 11 and Section 12 cases, including the impact of the
WorldCom case,
which resulted in a settlement of over $6.15 billion, including an unprecedented
$24.75 million personal payment by the company's former outside directors.
Mr. Fredericks has represented institutional investors as lead or co-lead counsel in
dozens of securities class actions, as well as in private commercial disputes.
He has been a panelist on a variety of litigation programs sponsored by various
organizations.
