Sean Coffey Discusses New
Trends in Securities Litigation at PLUS 2007 D&O Symposium
BLB&G Partner Sean Coffey
served as a panelist at the Plus 2007 D&O Symposium on January 31, 2007,
which was held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
Mr. Coffey participated in the panel entitled, "Securities
Litigation and Enforcement: Post-Mortem and Prognostications,"
drawing upon his expertise and practical experience while discussing important trends
in class action securities, including declining numbers of securities lawsuits,
changes in the plaintiff's bar, issues arising in class action settlements, and
important case law developments.
Mr. Coffey was lead trial counsel for the investor
Class in the
In re WorldCom, Inc. Securities Litigation,
which resulted in a settlement of over $6.15 billion. The WorldCom settlement
included an unprecedented $24.75 million personal payment by the company's former outside directors --
nearly 20% of the collective net worth of these individuals. The director settlement in
WorldCom has sparked considerable debate and has shaken corporate boardrooms across the
country.
