BLB&G Partner Sean Coffey Discusses Vital Lessons of
WorldCom at Directors Roundtable Event
BLB&G Partner Sean Coffey
served as a distinguished
speaker at the Directors Roundtable event, "What Directors &
Officers Need to Know: The Inside Story on Investigations, White Collar
Crime, Government Watchdogs, and Insurance," which took place
on December 12, 2006
in New York. Mr. Coffey drew from his experience as lead trial counsel
in the
WorldCom Securities Litigation to share his valuable insight on the topic.
Mr. Coffey and his team were responsible for a $6.15
billion recovery for defrauded investors in the WorldCom case.
The settlement, which includes a $24.75 million personal payment by the
company's former outside directors- nearly 20% of the collective net worth
of these individuals, sparked considerable debate regarding director and officer
liability, and according to The Wall Street Journal, has “shaken corporate boardrooms”
across the country.
