r. Mandel prosecutes securities fraud, corporate governance and shareholder rights litigation for the firm's institutional investor clients. He has been a member of the litigation teams on several of the firm's recent high profile cases including In re Nortel Networks Corporation Securities Litigation, which resulted in a recovery worth in excess of $1.3 billion in cash and stock, as well as the securities class action against the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation ("Freddie Mac"), in which a $410 million settlement was obtained for defrauded investors.  More recently, he was a member of the team that prosecuted the Caremark Merger Litigation, a shareholder class action contesting the terms of a proposed merger between Caremark Rx, Inc. and CVS Corporation on behalf of Caremark's shareholders.  The litigation resulted in over $3 billion in additional consideration being offered to Caremark shareholders by CVS.

Prior to joining BLB&G, Mr. Mandel was a litigation associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where his practice focused on securities, shareholder and ERISA fiduciary matters.  While in law school, Mr. Mandel participated in an exchange program with the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he concentrated his studies on international and comparative law.
